Celebration of the
Nigerian Woman

This project focuses on women empowerment through fashion by celebrating women who made history and are making history in Nigeria.

Marriage and making a home is at the forefront of a woman’s career in Nigeria, while the men make all the significant decisions, including choice of the women’s career path. This keeps women in a place of total dependency on their husbands, affecting their self-worth, confidence and sometimes leading to emotional abuse in marriages.

My hypothesis to solving this problem is by empowering women financially through personal choice of career paths and skills training they would become less dependent, more ascertivite and confident to become whoever they want to be.

African Colours

The African voice is bold, bright and beautiful, which is reflected in our festivals and celebrations to the play of vibrant colours on our fabrics.

The bold designs and patterns on the fabric and the rich texture, all interfuse to communicate the energy, experience, wealth and resilience of our African society.

Power Colours

I chose pink and purple because pink is a feminine colour and purple signifies royalty, wealth, luxury, self-awareness and independent. Combining both colours signifies women empowerment.
